Valley Community Center (Re-named Lower Falls Community Center) was
awarded a major State of WA grant to fund the relocation and remodel of
All Saints Lutheran Church for the purpose of housing the after-school
child care program operated at the existing Community Center. Our firm
returned to our over-arching objective of designing dignified,
beautiful facilities for the underserved in our community. A remarkable
group of people that included Mark Reilly (Center Director), Spokane
City Councilmen John Snyder, Mike Allen and Joe Shogan, Pastor Alan
Eschenbacher, and countless others, believed the kids of the Peaceful
Valley Neighborhood deserved no less in facilities than other kids in
community centers throughout the city. Following years of perseverance,
the new facility is set to break ground during spring, 2014.
Excavation of a major courtyard at the existing grass yard in front of
the church provides the after-school program a dynamic new entry and
its own identity. The church’s currently under-utilized basement will
be remodeled to become a spacious, light-filled, safe and fun
environment for children.
